Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp makes Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip choice after Joe Gomez blow | Football | Sport

Liverpool manager Klopp was furious on Wednesday night after Gomez limped out of their 3-1 Premier League victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Reds boss clashed with Burnley counterpart Sean Dyche after the injury, saying: “I said to the referee after the first sliding tackle over six or seven yards, when he got the ball and everyone liked it: ‘Please, tell them they cannot do that.

“It wasn’t a foul but they cannot do that. It’s like bowling because then four or five times it happened.

“Joe is injured and probably not only a little bit.”

It has since emerged that Liverpool will be without Gomez for the next six weeks.

The Reds have plenty of options in reserve.

Van Dijk is the club’s No 1 defender, and has been ever since signing from Southampton in a £75million transfer.

They also have Lovren and Matip on the books too.

And The Sun say Lovren is now in line to regularly partner Van Dijk at the back.

Matip will then supposedly be there to provide cover, with the Cameroon international no longer a regular pick.

Meanwhile, Burnley boss Dyche has defended his players in the wake of Gomez’s injury.

“There were some excellent tackles last night,” Dyche said.

“I think the only one that was questionable was Bardsley’s.

“I think Ben Mee’s was a fantastic tackle and I imagine that a player, who seems to me an honest player, like Gomes, I think he realised that.

“That was the message we received after.

“We send him our best if any injury occurred, but it’s not from a bad tackle.”
