England Women to face Barbarians at Twickenham for the first time

England Women will face the Barbarians at Twickenham for the first time on Jun. 2., the Rugby Football Union confirmed Tuesday.

The match will take place before Eddie Jones’ side play against the men’s team for the Quilter Cup in a double header.

“Connecting both the men’s and women’s Barbarians fixtures at Twickenham Stadium is a great concept and will truly bring to life the women’s Barbarians,” said England Women head coach Simon Middleton in a statement.

“It provides us with an excellent opportunity to help prepare for this year’s summer tour later that month.”

The game will act as preparation for England ahead of the Red Roses’ summer tour in July.

“The Barbarians successfully launched its women’s team in 2017 to bring together talented individuals and create a team that plays with a unique spirit of adventure and enjoyment,” said Barbarian FC Chairman John Spencer.

“For them to face an international side is a great opportunity for the club — to have two teams taking on England at Twickenham and means we can showcase all that is good about the game.”

England beat defending Six Nations champions France 41-26 in Doncaster on Sunday and will face Wales in Cardiff on Feb. 24.
