Mayweather event off after UAE president dies

Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition event on Saturday in Dubai was postponed following the death of UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Friday.

The UAE’s Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced a three-day suspension of work in all ministries and the private sector, which forced the cancelation of the event. Global Titans, the promoter of the event, announced that the event will be rescheduled.

“Sending my condolences to the entire UAE,” Mayweather wrote on Instagram. “RIP Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed.”

Mayweather, the Hall of Famer boxer who retired from the sport in 2017, still partakes in exhibition events, most recently against Logan Paul in June. The latest event was set to take place on a helipad in Dubai against Don Moore, an undefeated boxer who mostly competed in four-round bouts until his final fight in 2016.

Mayweather, 45, is set to promote a Showtime PPV fight between Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero on May 29 in Brooklyn, New York.
